348: THE NEW YEAR

The below photo was taken last night on New Year's Eve. It was the last sunlight of 2015 to shine on one of the mountain peaks near Big Cottonwood Canyon. Today begins a new year. The past two days have been extremely cold in Salt Lake. Due to the inversion where cold air gets traps in the valley, the pollution increases making it difficult to see the heaven sky.

Eight brave souls were willing to wake up early this morning to hike up to higher elevations to see the first sunrise of the New Year. Despite the severe cold, it was beautiful to see the Morning Star shine in the East prior to the rising sun. The contrast between a blazing fire burning in the midst of bitter cold on top of snow, or the contrast of witnessing the brilliant sun while facing bitter wind are reminders to me that we live in a world of opposition. Despite facing opposition in all things, I am grateful to be alive and continue to learn in the mortal world.

I recently read the following quote:

YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE,
BUT IF YOU DO IT RIGHT,
ONCE IS ENOUGH.

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2016.
