138: O YE POLLUTIONS

In an article in the USATODAY.  it was reported that there is a public-health emergency in the greater Salt Lake City area.   A friend of mine who lives out of state sent me the below newspaper article.

Below is todays current AQI (Air Quality Index) report on the air quality nationwide. The colors show how clean or polluted your air is, and what associated health effects might be of a concern.  Green areas=Good Air. Yellow Areas= Moderate Air Quality.  RED= Hazardous Air. http://airnow.gov/

You can see that the greater Salt Lake City is the only place in the country lit up in the RED color... which is coded for UNHEALTHY AIR. With this warning,  the report says that everyone may begin to experience health effects and members of sensitive groups may experience more serious health effects.

Pollution is the presence in the environment of a substance or thing that has harmful or poisonous effects. Physical pollutions are easy to see, and to monitor. However, probably even more deadly then physical pollutions are spiritual pollutions. The prophet Moroni, who saw us in these the Latter-Days, went to great lengths to testify and warn us of our situation.. our awful situation.

Moroni states:
"and your churches, yea, even every one,
have become polluted because of the pride of your hearts...
O ye pollutions, ye hypocrites, ye teachers, who sell yourselves for that which will canker,
why have ye polluted the holy church of God?
Moroni is asking us a question. "Why have ye polluted the holy church of God?"
  • Do we know which church is the holy church of God?
  • Is that us?
  • Is that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?
  • If not, then what other church is it?
  • Do we not testify that we are the ONLY true church, the holy church of God?
Just in case we still don't think Moroni is referring to us, he states, ALL THE CHURCHES.. yea EVEN EVERY ONE have become polluted. No exceptions. Moroni is lamenting at our awful state. Could the pollutions found in the physical air in the Greater Salt Lake City be symbolic of the pollutions in the holy church of God?

We have become polluted.
We have introduced into our environment things that are harmful and have ill effects both physically and spiritually.

Sidenote:
Here is the Salt Lake Temple in 1899.

.
.
Here is the area around the Salt Lake Temple (seen in the background)
after 5,000,000,000.00 billions of dollars went to "beautify" the area around Temple Square.

Pollutions?
I testify that Moroni saw our day and that his words are true.
I add my words.. "O ye pollutions, why do you sell that which will canker."

  1. Perfect and well done.

I've yet to have ever witnessed the Lord beautify his creations by adding a parking lot and skyscraper at with a highway to get to them.

Those acquainted with the echoing sounds of ravens, the sharp crackle of a fire and the majesty of a craggy mountain underfoot understand that trails worn pollution rarely lead to clean minds.

    1. or those acquainted with seeing the early morning sun rays hitting the tops of white snow capped mountain.:)
      .....

Is it any wonder that Moses went up to the mountain.

"And it came to pass, when ye heard the voice out of the midst of the darkness, (for the mountain did burn with fire,) that ye came near unto me, even all the heads of your tribes, and your elders.

And ye said, Behold, the Lord our God hath shewed us his glory and his greatness, and we have heard his voice out of the midst of the fire: we have seen this day that God doth talk with man, and he liveth."

      Deuteronomy 5:23-24

  2. Apparently, one must go up out of the pollution, rise above it to the mountain of the lord, to see things as they really are.

  3. I have heard... and maybe someone here can track this down easier than I could... that the walls of the Salt Lake temple are something like 6 feet thick at the bottom and 3 feet thick at the top. Not sure if that's correct, but the point is the walls are constructed in such a way that a tremendous upward force would not harm the structure of the building. Somewhere, in some talk, Elder Boyd K. Packer refers to this. This has always been curious to me. Advanced technology moving the temple to a new location? Maybe an earthquake? Can you imagine the temple being lifted up on a mountain the rest ... destroyed? They didn't build it that way for nothin'.

  4. Well, I can remember, when I was a child travelling a long way to the west and seeing the Salt Lake Temple coming up as we approached the city--

it was the tallest building back then and always inspiring. Well, I'm not a child anymore--

but I'm very glad that, as an adult, I chose (with my spouse) to remain in the east--

Salt Lake has become a very scary place. We visited there back in 1998, stayed in a Marriott, the one near the temple--

and our vehicle was broken into, and we lost a lot of valuable things--

We contacted the local police, and they kind of laughed at us--

I would not live in that place--

now, for those of us who live where there are no mountains, there is nothing like a snowy woods--

  5. I have heard it said that the environment outside of us can reveal what is on our insides. Also scary.

  6. Guess what the highest building is now? Guess what other buildings rise high above the temple?

  7. Yes, the Holy Church of God has become so totally polluted and corrupted, that those who remain in it become so too, though they rarely realize it, unless they ever catch a glimpse of the real truth & beauty above the smog.

  8. Even the healthiest may eventually be affected by the pollutions. Indeed.

  9. While there may be pollutions (both physical and spiritual) among many other LDS, from top to bottom, the thought is given to me, what about my own?

    1. Hopefully if/when others fall... no matter how high up they are... we will not have found ourselves leaning on them.
