This afternoon on the eve of the darkest day of the year, same-sex marriage is one step closer in becoming legalized in Utah. What usually happens politically from the powers of the government, the church has historically has followed to avoid persecution. I wonder how long it will take.
NEWS ARTICLE: "A federal judge has struck down Utah's same-sex marriage ban, saying it is unconstitutional. U.S. District Judge Robert J. Shelby issued a 53-page ruling Friday saying Utah's law passed by voters in 2004 violates gay and lesbian couples' rights to due process and equal protection under the 14th Amendment. Shelby says the state failed to show that allowing same-sex marriages would affect opposite-sex marriages in any way, and the state's unsupported fears and speculations are insufficient to justify deny allowing same-sex marriages.
Many similar court challenges are pending in other states, but Utah's has been closely watched because of the state's history of staunch opposition to gay marriage as the home of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints."
2014 will be a very interesting year.
Reminds me of the Chinese curse: "May you live in interesting times."
ReplyDeleteThe LDS Church in favor of the gays has already used its influence to lobby for the use of force to take away rights of the citizens of Salt Lake City when it came to housing and employment discrimination back in 2009.
ReplyDeleteWhy did the LDS Church lobby to nullify rights of the Salt Lake City citizens? Divine Inspiration? If so, why would they not lobby for gay marriage now if they would lobby for the gays to use force of government when it comes to housing and employment matters?
Did not the watchmen on the tower see that their support of gays and using force to take away natural rights of citizens was a bad idea?
I am really am convinced that Church eventually will do anything to look reasonable in the worlds eyes.

ReplyDeleteThe Mormons call that continuing revelation by the way. The Mormons claim that God is the same yesterday, today and forever in this way.
Government should not be concerned with marriage anyway. You can not force morality , force is a principle that will fail eventually given enough time. Once you advocate force, you yourself have become immoral. The Lord gave the people a good balance to govern by in the constitution but the people ignored it and they have entered into dominions they had no right to enter.
ReplyDeleteI agree with 5:41 a.m. The truth/fact is that marriage should never have come within the domain of the 'state'--
ReplyDeleteonce it did, pandora's box was opened for all sorts of legal evil--
It's a huge mess--
how to save the heterosexual marriages right now--
not from homosexual marriage but from rampant divorce?
:(
I wonder if the church secretly gave their nod of approval Like the poster above stated, it was very weird in 2009 when they pushed the legislation where apartment owners could not discriminate. What's really going on behind the scenes of a church that will soon be cleansed? God only knows.
