The
The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced Monday that a civil marriage between a man and a woman will no longer necessitate waiting a year for that couple to be to married (or sealed) in a temple.
"...when a temple marriage would cause parents or immediate family members to feel excluded, a civil ceremony followed by a temple sealing is authorized.”
The Church asks that these civil marriage ceremonies be simple and dignified. Couples may use chapels owned by the Church for these ceremonies.

Before the Salt Lake Temple is closed for 4 years and they remove the existing gardens surrounding the Temple and demolish the Salt Lake City Temple Chapel and Annex Building, I would highly recommend walking through the gardens right now during spring since it will be the last time to see the Temple grounds as it has been for decades.
Here are a few photos I took a couple of days ago.

And this photo was taken by Rory Wallwork of the Cherry Trees that will also be cut down.

And here is what we have to look forward to in 2024:
Below are some of the renderings from the Church for the new look of the Salt Lake Temple and Temple Square. It appears that there will be more concrete and plaza space instead of the natural looking gardens that currently surround the Temple.
