Irony is characterized by an incongruity, or contrast, between what the expectations of a situation are and what is really the case.
Instead of reading the Book of Mormon as a warning to us of what we are doing wrong, we use the Book of Mormon as proof that we are right.. and the only true church. Instead of using the book as a prophetic blueprint of what not to do, we use it to hasten our efforts to proclaim the message that we are building Zion. Instead of admitting our mistakes and repenting, we follow along and maintain the status quo.
Our existence was designed for us that we might have joy, yet in this world we are seeing more and more sadness. A recent article in the LA Times reported that that Clinical depression is now the second-leading cause of global disability, according to new research, with the highest rates of incidence affecting working-age adults and women more than men. These depressive disorders were second only to lower respiratory infections. LINK
We see innocent life lost while the guilty live. Last week a family in our neighborhood were driving home when an intoxicated undocumented illegal immigrant hit their car and their 3 year old was tragically killed. The man who hit their car attempted to flee the scene, since he is un-insured and without legal documents to be in the country.
Those who have the role to protect life are the very ones who destroy life. Here in Utah over the past two weeks , a mother killed her two daughters and then killed herself. A Utah police officer killed his wife, his 7 year son and his 5 year old daughter, and his mother in law before killing himself.
We punish and cast out those who tell the truth and stand up for their convictions.
We desire to have love in harmony in our homes, yet we spend little time nourishing our family relationships. Instead we abuse, neglect and eventually separate causing heartache, despair, and pain to those we should love the most.
We are taught the importance of seeking out receiving Christ in the flesh in the Book of Mormon, yet we don't believe those who testify of Christ, who have seen Him in the flesh and instead we label them as deceivers, Anti-Christs, and apostates.
The list could go on. In his final words before passing the records to his brother Jacob, Nephi teaches the doctrine of Christ, “Behold, this is the doctrine of Christ, and there will be no more doctrine given until after he shall manifest himself unto you in the flesh. And when he shall manifest himself unto you in the flesh, the things which he shall say unto you shall ye observe to do. And now I, Nephi, cannot say more; the Spirit stoppeth mine utterance, and I am left to mourn because of the unbelief, and the wickedness, and the ignorance, and the stiffneckedness of men; for they will not search knowledge, nor understand great knowledge, when it is given unto them in plainness, even as plain as word can be.” 2 Nephi 32: 5-7

Right on, right on brother.
We, the LDS, are a walking, living breathing contradiction. We read about Moroni condemning us for transfiguring the word of God and yet all sit in blindness after the 'Lectures on Faith' was ripped out of the D&C after being official scripture for 80+ years, given to us by Joseph and Sidney. We have a new image of God that does not match up with the Book of Mormon and the Lectures on Faith...yet we proudly claim our right to be right.
We read about secret signs and secret societies , and blindly enter a Temple that presents a proposed 'Endowment' that has signs and tokens, clearly taken from Freemasonry and that the Book of Mormon screams blue murder against. We have absolutely no documentation that Joseph taught this endowment, and we know for certain that the only Temple that the Lord every personally accepted and visited, Kirtland Temple, didn't have this Endowment screenplay, and didn't even have telestial, terrestrial and celestial rooms...and yet, all LDS just blindly go along.
Follow the leader (prophet) is a game they play in North Korea, and every other dictatorship. Why is it we can't see it within the LDS church? Because while we 'read' the Book of Mormon, we definitely do not believe it. And especially that it is a type and shadow of the LDS church.
You are right...the list could go on. And on...
Thank you for some excellent posts. I always silently read but had to comment today.

Is that not the m.o. of humans, though? "If our days had been in the days of the prophets/of our fathers, we would not have stoned them nor cast them out." Yet, we do not recognize true messengers who make us uncomfortable by their cries that we need to repent. And scriptures, I suppose, were always written for those who did not need them.
Your examples are sad. We are so blind, so stiffnecked, so willing to dine on regurgitated info that lacks true nourishment.
interesting. I agree with this at least:
Instead of reading the Book of Mormon as a warning to us of what we are doing wrong, we use the Book of Mormon as proof that we are right
Yes, it is ironic and, possibly, tragic.
Fusion, a slight correction: You ought to read "Ascension of Isaiah." See chapter 10:
23. And again I saw when He descended into the third heaven, and He made Himself like unto the form of the angels in the third heaven.
24. And those who kept the gate of the (third) heaven demanded the password, and the Lord gave (it) to them in order that He should not be recognized. And when they saw Him, they did not praise or laud Him; for His form was like unto their form.
25. And again I saw when He descended into the second heaven, and again He gave the password there; those who kept the gate proceeded to demand and the Lord to give.
26. And I saw when He made Himself like unto the form of the angels in the second heaven, and they saw Him and they did not praise Him; for His form was like unto their form.
27. And again I saw when He descended into the first heaven, and there also He gave the password to those who kept the gate, and He made Himself like unto the form of the angels who were on the left of that throne, and they neither praised nor lauded Him; for His form was like unto their form.
28. But as for me no one asked me on account of the angel who conducted me.
29. And again He descended into the firmament where dwelleth the ruler of this world, and He gave the password to those on the left, and His form was like theirs, and they did not praise Him there; but they were envying one another and fighting; for here there is a power of evil and envying about trifles.
30. And I saw when He descended and made Himself like unto the angels of the air, and He was like one of them.
31. And He gave no password; for one was plundering and doing violence to another.
It would seem that the origin of passwords to the heavens was not free masonry (which dates back only a few hundred years) or Joseph Smith or Brigham Young.
Irony ... yes!
