339: UNBELIEVABLE - "Compromise" and "submit"

Mormon apostle Oaks: Kentucky clerk wrong not to issue same-sex marriage licenses

Elder Oaks: "Compromise should be the goal."

Elder Oaks: "Believers should ... acknowledge the validity of constitutional laws. Even where they have challenged laws or practices on constitutional grounds, once those laws or practices have been sustained by the highest available authority believers should acknowledge their validity and submit to them."

Seriously? Compromise? Submit? No longer should we stand up for what is right? Here is a quote from President Monson that I appreciate:  "Do we have the moral courage to stand firm for our beliefs, even if by so doing we must stand alone?"

Sidenote:
I long to feel "free" and fly like this.

Here is a quote from Jesus that I appreciate:

Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison.

But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.

And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also.

And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.

Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.

I read this today also, and thought, some much for following the prophet. Next thing you know, people will say that me must submit to the "highest authority" because a prophet said so like they say, we can only have one earing and can't play with face cards on the Sabbath. .....shouldn't the highest authority be God?

Christ also called people dogs, vipers, sons of Satan, wolves, swine, goats, tares fit for the fire, that he hated the children of Esau, and would only save the pennant. He turned the money changers out of the temple with force. He will also spew you from his mouth if you are lukewarm.

Sounds like Elder Oaks went full Romans 13.
It would seem that Elder Oaks now stands in opposition to the Father's will (Moses 1:39).
I will stand with the Father and with Natural Law. Homosexuals stand against both.

Which are the Constitutional laws? Certainly nothing which restrains personal liberty, especially liberty of acting on your conscience.

Who is this 'highest available authority'? Christ validated the Constitution as it was originally written, with the Bill of Rights attached. Anything more or less than that original Constitution "cometh of evil".

I wonder what side Elder Oaks would have chosen in the 1930s were he a German citizen?

Would he have worked along side the Mormon youth, Helmuth Hubener, who bravely put his life at risk to oppose the Nazi regime? Huebner was executed for his "crimes" against the Reich in August of 1942. Or would Elder Oaks have worked with Arthur Zander, Hubener’s LDS Branch President (and ardent Nazi supporter), in excommunicating Hubener in February of 1942 in order to ameliorate the Nazis?

Hitler was elected and rose to power with the support of the people and used the force of “law” to execute his designs. I know, I know. “We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, magistrates, rulers, (potentates, dictators, tyrants, despots, strongmen, madmen, megalomaniacs, Pharoahs, Supreme Rulers, Gengis Kahn, Pol Pot, Stalin, Mao, Hitler and Vlad the Impaler) and in honoring, obeying and sustaining the law.”

Quoting from the article:

"For his part, Oaks called for a balancing of rights. Instead of a so-called "wall of separation between church and state," for instance, he proposed "a curtain that defines boundaries but is not a barrier to the passage of light and love and mutual support from one side to another."

Believers and nonbelievers should not be adversaries, nor should there "belligerence between religion and government," Oaks said in a release of his prepared speech. "These two realms should have a mutually supportive relationship."

The senior apostle, second in line for the LDS Church's presidency, suggested some general principles for all sides to follow along a "center path" that balances the rights and interests of church and state.

"First, parties with different views on the relationship between church and state should advocate and act with civility," Oaks said. "We all lose when an atmosphere of anger or hostility or contention prevails. We all lose when we cannot debate public policies without resorting to boycotts, firings and intimidation of our adversaries." "

Apostle or politician? Hmm.
