331: MORMON APOCALYPSE HITS NATIONAL NEWS

I thought this national headline story was interesting: link to article

Apparently Julie Rowe has created quite a stir. I haven't read her books, but apparently she prophesies the future. I think she has such a large following amongst the members of LDS faith because we so hungry to hear anything that sounds prophetic. It is interesting that we are so eager to believe anything that remotes seems like prophecy in the absence of no prophecy.

I think there is one point missing from your analysis: she prophesies a pro-brethren future. The people are hungry to hear prophecy, but only when it feeds their preconceived notions. These is merely AVOW gone mainstream.

Isaiah 8:
19 When men tell you to inquire of mediums and spiritists who huddle together and mutter, say to them, Should not a people inquire of their God? Should one inquire b of the dead on behalf of the living 20 for doctrine and for a testimony? Surely, while they utter such words devoid of light, 21 they roam about embittered by hunger; and when they are hungry, they become enraged and, gazing upward, curse their king and their God. 22 They will look to the land, but there shall be a depressing scene of anguish and gloom; and thus are they banished into outer darkness.

My earlier comment responded to specific wording in the post which appears to have been changed. I have no complaint about the current wording.

2 Tim 4:3 says "For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;" Whether Julie Rowe's work on its own proves we Mormons have "itching ears" or not, there's enough such material around to make the point clearly: John Pontius and his "Spencer", the Aklatan, Denver Snuffer, Christopher Nemelka, and others. Note that I don't mean to say any or all of the above are false prophets, just that obviously some of us aren't satisfied limiting ourselves to what comes from Salt Lake.

Also, the hearsay I've gotten about Julie Rowe's books is true, namely that they just say, "I had a dream / vision / etc. of ___ happening", I wouldn't necessarily call that "prophecy" in a strict sense; prophecy, in my mind, ought to be "the Lord has told me to tell you that ___ will happen."

I appreciated your comment and so I slightly revised the wording in the post.

Thanks Rob. Good point.

I warned people about her over a year ago when her first book came out. Boy, was I reviled. One day I had left the book on the table and my daughter took one look at it and said 'That is an evil book!' and was completely repulsed by it. Suddenly I understood the very clever message of her book. My mother fell for it as well. I think you're both right, there's a lot of very itchy ears out there, and I think people are being manipulated by TPTB both inside and outside the LDS church.
