241: MORMON REAL ESTATE DEVELOPMENT ON THE EAST COAST

At first glance, I thought this was an image of downtown Salt Lake City. However this is not Salt Lake, but the city of Philadelphia where the LDS Church is planning on building a 32 story residential building . The tower looks exactly like the one they built in City Creek Center where some of the condominiums were selling for over a million dollars.

Just to give you an idea on how tall the building will be.. the LDS Church Office Building is only 28 stories. This new building development will be 32 stories. Taller than any other building in Salt Lake.

The announcement that the Church plans to build this 32 story tower was printed in the Philadelphia news with the article titled, "Mormons to build 32-story tower near Center City."

 LINK TO THE STORY

"The Mormon Church plans to build a 32-story apartment tower and a public meetinghouse on a vacant lot next to the Vine Street Expressway, filling in a key piece of the no-man's-land that has long separated Center City and North Philadelphia's rebounding neighborhoods.

The private development by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints calls for 258 apartments, 13 townhouses, and retail shops at 16th and Vine Streets.

Tenants need not be Mormons to rent an apartment or townhouse in the development, officials said. They said the units would rent at market prices.

Wednesday's announcement is the next step in the church's commitment to invest in Philadelphia, City Council President Darrell L. Clarke said. Church officials said the development would complete their local building plans.

The total cost of the project is not yet known, church officials said.

Spiritually speaking, can you expound on your testimony concerning this story and other posts on your blog?

Philadelphia is also mentioned in the Book of Revelation, the apocalyptic book of the last days. It seems it contrasts those who "hast kept my word and deny not my name" to those Jews (covenant people). To these, the Lord says, "Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee." (Rev. 3:8-9)

Is it coincidence that following this, the Lord speaks of "the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth", and an admonition to the faithful to "hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown." (Rev. 3:10-11).

And the beautiful promises to those can see it, forsake it, and overcome it:
"Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches." (Rev. 3:12-13).

For him who hath eyes to see, and ears to hear . . . it is upon us.

Is it just me, or is it VERY STRANGE that there is an angel Moroni on the meetinghouse? Isn't that supposed to be reserved for just the temple???

I am not sure I understand... Expound my testimony concerning this story?

Well, I can bear testimony that I read the news article, and that saw the artist rendering of the 32 story tower. I bear testimony that within the article it says that these apartments will be rented at market price, which means that there will be a profit made.

As far as other posts on my blog.. not sure which ones you are referring to.

but I can bear testimony that the Book of Mormon contains warnings for us and that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God who bore witness that he saw the Lord as well as ministering angels. I bear witness that we need personally establish and nurture our connection with Heaven and seek after our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Only through Him can we be saved.

Just to clarify.. posts like the one above are only observations of what I currently see happening. I often wonder if Moroni lived today in our world and had a blog, I wonder what things he would post. As you probably know, Moroni saw us living in our day and in fact, he is talking to us... members of the Holy Church of God... Read what he had to say, especially in Mormon chapter 8... he says it better than I can.. I merely just post observations and let the reader come to their own conclusions.

That is the Philadelphia Temple currently being built and will be dedicated in 2016... the meeting house is the red brick building with the white spire.

2 Nephi 28:13 They rob the poor because of their fine sanctuaries; they rob the poor because of their fine clothing; and they persecute the meek and the poor in heart, because in their pride they are puffed up.

That is one fine looking sanctuary.

Look at the three buildings. It's easy to see what the God of the Mormon church is. The biggest building is built to get gain. The smaller, to save souls.

Why is a church building apartment buildings?

Anonymous said...

Not one bit surprising. For comparison, the church owns the 36-story building that houses the mission home, stake center, and temple in New York City, and has for many decades. It's on very desirable property right across from Lincoln Center. Rather than get our dander up every time something like this comes out, it might be better to just expect that the very well funded real estate investment arm of the church is going to invest in real estate, whether it's waterfront property in Hawaii, ranch land in Florida, or high rise office buildings in big cities. As John Larson made the point in a recent podcast, the church believes it is literally "building the kingdom of God," emphasis on "building." It's all part of a grandiose scheme, and as was mentioned earlier in this thread, goes all the way back to Kirtland and Nauvoo. There was no difference in their minds between the spiritual kingdom of God and the physical kingdom of God. That's still playing out today.

Doesn't bother me. I decided a while back that they were not going to play Monopoly with my tithing money anymore. My tithing has gone to the poor lately and I feel quite good with that decision. When the church decides to start building up the Kingdom of God upon the earth and working to establish Zion, I will reconsider my decision.

JR

What is your full name, address, current ward and stake, and membership number?

Anonymous said...

JR ... are you sure you can do that? Did you get permission from those who hold authority and keys over your salvation? You should probably know ... God, via His true prophets, seers and revelators, has pretty much tied all your mortal and eternal blessing to your ability to keeping the payments coming in...and I'm thinking that a reduction in your membership dues might lead to ... well, let's just say that I'm pretty sure that those who let the church (TM) invest their funds for them do a lot better in eternity ... at least that want the recruitment and retention department keep telling me :)

Anonymous said...

One of the ways that I KNOW that this is the "Kingdom of God" being built up by His one and only true Corporation is that the Church (TM) continues to boldly assert that they, just like that Jesus guy, are no respector of persons when comes to allowing entrance, into these Church supported, Brethren approved, geographically situated, upscaled pimped out penthouse sweets aka Kingdom of God on earth ... they will accept anyone's money; mormon, non-mormon, temple recommend holder, non-temple recommend holder ... just as it is laid out in scripture, it does not matter the person (well, except you may have to pass a credit check and provide a statment of finances), these buildings will be available to anyone who wants to buy, lease, rent their piece of the Celestial**, right here in the Telestial :)

**Fine Print ... rental, lease, purchase only allows for Tier One Telestial blessings, benefit package. Additional donations, funds and in-kind support necessay for upper Kingdom seating ... Compliments of ONE AWESOME FINANCIALLY STABLE GOD :)

If only Elder Nelson would read some of the posts circulating around the church these days!
Maybe then he might drop some of the cutsy talks in GC about brownies and cocoa and get down to preaching repentance and help the members figure out what it means to "Come Unto Christ". No, scratch that, he's too busy hunting down apostates who really believe the words of Christ and want to live His Gospel. Too bad we are so used to living with fear and intimidation that almost no one ever posts using their real name, unless they are singing the praises of the Corporate Chuch, Inc.

JR, my little wolf pup who shows an unnatural interest in sheep's clothing, one day in Zion there would be no need for a surveillance agency in the corporate headquarters.

Thank you. I was wondering the same thing.

Elder Nelson,

Except when those very nice men came to my house, as nice as they were, the way they asked leading questions to try to get me to reconsider just came across as manipulative.

(Yep, the young full time missionaries actually did come by, and actually tried to get me to reconsider. They were great guys, with a great midssionary spirit, except for their manipulative leading questions about tithing.)

Another JR (Not the Feb. 14, 9:18 one)

Interesting take on "sacred funds" ...

So true JR. One of the quickest ways to get exed from the Church today is to actually live and teach the pure words of Christ. But then again, those who do follow Christ will have already left the Church themselves long ago anyway.

The other apostles are rewarding Elder Nelsion with cute "heart attacks" on his door. He is being rewarded for his good works on behalf of the church. For dealing with "apostate Snuffer"? I'm sure I do not know.

The church today is just doing what Joseph smith did except with a bigger bankroll and a more conservative approach. Joseph built banks and commercial buildings. Had Joseph been alive I am sure he would have been at the ribbon cutting ceremony doing the countdown and yelling "Let's go shopping". I am sure his 33 wives would of love the idea of a mall too, most women go shopping. Joseph smith was a pretty liberal guy, who knows what kind of shenanigans he be up to if he was still leading the church today.

Anonymous said...

If Joseph Smith was still alive and leading the church, I wonder how many more times the church would have needed to declare bankruptcy by now? Lol

To the anonymous of the last two comments:
Yes, thank goodness for the current financial success of the Church.... All is well in Zion.

Joseph Smith never established Zion lol

If this is Zion I would hate to see what hell looks like

I found out that the "heart attack" article I read was phony. The whole site (which I don't remember the url) was a farce. My bad.
